In Club Events

We have a variety of regular curling activities scheduled for your curling enjoyment. There is a league or event for all curlers, whether you are experienced or a beginner.

Men´s Curling

Men´s Club Championship

The Men´s Club Championship draws take place on Monday evenings and Tuesday evenings with 2 draws held on Monday and one draw on Tuesday. This event is either a team entry or individual sign up from which teams are created. This event runs the length of the curling season. Teams are in flights, with total points determining flight movement at scheduled intervals. The “President´s Cup” is awarded to the Men´s
Club “C” team that accumulates the most points throughout the regular curling season. After a final round robin, playoffs are held to determine champions in four events.

Thursday Men´s Events

The Chester Pegg Men´s Event runs until Christmas. After the New Year, the Scrapper´s Event commences and is open to all categories: Men, Womens, Mixed, Seniors, and Juniors.

Chester Pegg Event

There are invitational in and out of club competitive bonspiesl throughout Southwestern Ontario with minimum ages of 55, 60, or 70.

Women´s Curling

Evening Women´s

Curling for Women takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. You can sign up for both or either evenings. Tuesday´s teams are made up by a draw that changes every 6 weeks and Thursday´s event is a team entry that runs the whole season.

Women´s Club Championship

A Women´s Club Championship event was established in 1996 and takes place on Thursday evenings rotating at 6:00 & 8:00 pm with the other events. The “Aggregate Award” is awarded to the Women´s Club “C” team that accumulates the most points throughout the regular curling season.

Highland Jewel Event

This is a combination of 5 spiels that take place throughout the season. Each is an 8 end game. Team members are drawn from a hat according to club rated positions. Points are accumulated over the 5 events for each skip, vice, second, and lead.

Day Women´s

Tuesday & Thursday Women´s Curling

Tuesday and Thursday afternoon events are individual sign up. Teams are created for the duration of each event. Event length varies from one day to six weeks.

There is a “Coffee Party” in early September during which information and particulars are provided about the various Day Women´s events, and sign up procedures.

Mixed Curling

In addition to regular weekly curling, there are several mixed bonspiels.

Mixed Club Championship

Wednesday Night Mixed consists of three draws, generally 5:30pm, 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Flights are adjusted after each round robin. Playoffs are held to close out the season with ALL teams participating according to their flight placing in 3 events.

Friday Night Mixed

Friday nights are for social mixed curling. There are 2 draws each Friday that play 6 end games. Entry is by couple or individual. This event is in 2 sessions, with sign up required for each session. Teams are reconfigured for each session. Each session ends with a snack and prize presentation to the winning couples.

Juniors & Little Rocks

Juniors

Our Junior/Bantam program is for boys & girls between the ages of 13 and 20. This group includes both novice and experienced curlers. They play Sunday afternoons between 3:00 and 5:00 pm.

Little Rocks

Our Little Rocks program is for boys & girls between the ages of 7 and 12. This group includes both novice and experienced curlers. They play Sunday afternoons between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.

OCA Events

Opportunities to represent Highland exist for nearly all levels of curling. Highland has won several Ontario Banners in the past few years, and is usually well represented at Zone, Divisional and Provincial levels.

OCA dues are required to be paid by all curlers representing the club at OCA and national events:

  • OCA dues are mandatory for all Full and Limited curling members
  • OCA dues are an optional extra for Friday Night, Intermediate, Student and Social members
  • Little Rocks, Bantam & Junior OCA dues are covered by Highland, as required.

You are encouraged to enter teams to represent Highland Country Club.

We trust the foregoing will assist you in becoming familiar with the many activities at Highland Country Club. From time to time, there are other events held during the season, so you must watch for our monthly publication, the Highlander, and look for announcements posted on our bulletin boards, on our website, and regular Heads Up updates.

Remember it is your club – use it, enjoy it, and don’t hesitate to ask if you do not understand something. Most events are run by volunteer conveners and we would welcome your help.
